The Post Lounge's own James Starnes along with Queensland’s Owen Arnold and Warren Collier from Regatta Studios have taken out first place at this year’s Australian Screen Sound Awards for their collaborative work on the “Lone Driver” TVC campaign.
In it’s 12th year, the Australian Screen Sound Awards recognises the excellence of professionals in the Australian sound industry. This prestigious event was held in Sydney on 20th November 2009 with Australia’s top composers, sound designers, foley artists, mixers and engineers in attendance.
Owen, Warren and James took out the coveted Best Achievement in Sound for a Television Commercial or Program award for the TVC directed by Brendan Williams ACS from B Films.
Owen and Warren from Regatta Studios were approached by Brendan Williams to compose the music and create the sound design for the TVC, with James and The Post Lounge being responsible for the compositing, VFX, colour grade, VO recording and final sound mix.
“From the outset, we knew working with Brendan Williams would be a highly creative and rewarding process. Musically we had a clear vision of what we wanted to achieve, a hypnotic, slightly arty composition with no clear boundary between sound design and music. Our sound design layers morph in and around the music creating a complete sound package that enhances Brendan’s awesome visuals” said Regatta Studios Owen Arnold of the award winning piece.
“These awards are judged by the best sound professionals in the country. It is such an honour to be recognised by them, especially for a piece of work that we are so incredibly proud of” said The Post Lounge’s James Starnes. “It was such an amazing night, not only did we win this award, but we also stayed up till 4am chatting to sound greats like Phil Judd and Trevor Harrison. It was a very cool experience”.
Regatta Studios were also nominated for “Best Achievement in Sound for an Animated Short Film or Program” for Awaken. Regatta Studios completed the entire sound design package and the 5.1 theatrical mix for the animated film.
Regatta Studios and The Post Lounge are highly respected for their work in sound and post production respectively in the industry, not just in Queensland but across the country.
