TPL Lends a Hand for Student Masterclass

Wednesday 14th Jul 2010

The Post Lounge is once again proud to have been involved in the 2010 Kodak Cinematography Student Masterclass. The Masterclass gave students the chance to observe prominent DOP’s in action, setting up shots, lighting and shooting scenes on film. Students then had a chance to do the same under the DOP’s direction.

Once shooting was completed, the students processed their footage at the Village Roadshow Digital Film Lab, then completed a grade in TPL’s Nucoda grading suite. One week later, TPL’s Colin Brown hosted the students at our Gold Coast facility and talked through the process of Telecine and DI grading as well as discussing post production processes. Students were shown the graded footage as well as displaying their footage on the Spirit Telecine suite and showing the different looks that can be achieved. The students also had the opportunity to see the Spirit up close and ask one-on-one questions with our colourist Alex Evans and Telecine operator Simon Clark.

This event provided a unique opportunity for the next generation of filmmakers to not only see the film process in action, but also to hear directly from the DOP’s about how and why film is still demanding attention. The program was organised by Kodak’s Leigh Christensen who said that his aim was “To give students a unique opportunity to work hands on with 16 and 35mm film rather than viewing a demonstration”.
