Brand - University of the Sunshine Coast

Directed by Cameron Hird from BFILMS and shot by Aron Leong, this TVC heads up a re-branding campaign for the University of the Sunshine Coast.

A team of TPL compositors using Flint and After Effects worked closely with Cam to enhance the striking imagery, which captures some of the Sunshine Coast’s most scenic locations and showcases the experiences USC has to offer.

Brief background on yourself?
I'm somewhat of an action hero, not much to look at during the day - but at night... I've also recently joined BFILMS, an energetic place full of fun and creative people. I liken it to Super Mario, BFILMS is the golden star that makes you run really fast...

All time favourite job you've worked on?
A Fanta spot, "Bubbles". An edgy and creative script, shot on every format imaginable. Underwater, lots of spunky VFX, black and white, cute kids - lots and lots of fun!

In regards to the USC job:
A 60" TVC heading up a re-branding campaign for The University of the Sunshine Coast (USC).

My approach:
Uni is a creative place with loads of fun and exciting experiences, I wanted to create and capture those moments. From a contemplative moment gazing across the Glasshouse Mountains to experiencing cultures on the other side of the world, there was opportunity for visually striking imagery to excite and inspire our audience. Each scene was to be distinctive and compelling in its own way - these varied 'experiences' were threaded together seamlessly by use of clever transitions.

In which locations did you shoot the TVC?
All over the Sunny Coast, from the Glasshouse Mountains, rainforest (Buderim) to the coast (Point Cartwright), and of course at the Uni.

What was the trickiest/most challenging shot?
The weather balloon sequence, it was cold and rainy and very uncomfortable but perfect for what we were after - so that made it all better. It was quite a challenging shoot all round, we had quite a small crew but Aron Leong (DOP) managed to shoot some great pictures quickly and without unloading the truck.

Which is your favourite sequence in the TVC?
The opening shots - gorgeous. The weather balloon sequence is nice too.

Did you learn anything about post that you didn't already know?
Always. I learn something with every job. We were aware of the blue channel issue with the RED when keying, but it was interesting to note that if keying blue off a green screen (and presumably vice versa) there's an issue with recognising the colour difference and it keys both... Oh, and Phil Radford is very good at clocks!

Any interesting facts/funny things that happened during the job?
We shot a few things on the new Canon 5D mkII - we had a lot of fun with this camera. It enables you to work incredibly quickly and gets you places a larger camera can't - I can't wait to play with this camera some more.

Anything else you would like to add?
A huge thank you to the magic Post Lounge team. This job was a big ask and I wasn't sure what to expect from them - the end result is wonderful, and everyone there was truly outstanding.
