Hamish & Andy 'Caravan of Courage' - Austereo

Shot on RED in Melbourne by Fabric Films, this campaign promotes Australia's favourite comedy duo, Hamish & Andy, as they embark on their radio journey across the USA. The simple, yet effective commercials maintain the pristine modern look of the earlier 'Caravan of Courage' campaigns, while simply focussing on the comedians at work.

What is your favourite sequence from the commercials?

Probably the action packed bumjacking scene from the Bear script. It really is an Oscar winning moment. Everytime we had a freeze frame of that spot on the screen during the edit it just looked so wrong!  We also cut together a 5 minute out-takes clip with the guys just making stuff up which is absolute gold . They are very good at it - I guess they do it everyday on their radio show for hours on end.

Where was the shoot?

In Melbourne at Premier Studios.

Any quirky moments with the jokes with Andy and Hamish that you would like to share? It must have been a very fun shoot given the comedy of the two of them?

Yeah the guys are hilarious to be around. Andy is a nice bloke and Hamish is a full time joke cracking machine. Umm quirky?? There was some funny moments in the change room while we were all commentating on Hamish as he was getting dressed in his cheerleader outfit!

Any interesting facts that happened during the shoot?

Well the Mugger spot was actually shot in a single ad-libed take because they guys had written a different script which involved shooting a real gun. Yep we had an armoury expert with a full array of weapons [including an Ouzi] and Hamish was firing off blanks and scaring the bo-jingles out of everyone. But the execs felt it would be good to have something a little less controversial in the bag [ie don't do a Kyle and Jackie just yet boys!]. So the guys jumped in front of the camera and just made something up on the spot. They are absolute pros and every take with them is spot on. We shot four ads, did all the stills and attached some massive strap-on breasts to Hamish in two hours. One thing I've learnt working with all these high profile people at the radio stations around the country is that they are busy people and you've got to work very quickly. It's lots of fun working with two talented guys who are probably one of the best comedic duos in the country at the moment.

Anything else you would like to add?

I'd like to thank each and every person at the Post Lounge for all their hard work on these [and all the others] radio spots. Coops has himself a great team of people.
